Seven Portuguese universities among the best in the world, according to QS World University
The University of Porto is ranked the best in Portugal at 295th position among 1,300 universities all over the world. It is followed by the University of Lisbon and Nova University.
Portuguese universities are, once again, highlighted in world rankings. The universities of Porto, Lisbon, Nova, Coimbra, Minho, Aveiro and Católica are the only national university institutions present in the “QS World University Rankings 2022”, published annually by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), which assesses the performance of universities from all around the world. The University of Porto ranks first among the Portuguese, in 295th place, among 1,300 universities worldwide.
With an overall score of 34.9, the University of Porto stands out, especially in metrics related to mentions and reputation. The university’s performance improved in relation to the previous ranking, where it ranked 357th with an overall score of 30.2.
It is followed by the University of Lisbon, in 356th position, with a score of 31. The more specific evaluation of the international student ratio and the academic reputation contributed the most to this result.
The Nova University Lisbon is the third-best institution of higher education in Portugal. Occupying 431st place in the global ranking, Nova obtained a score of 26.4, largely supported by the number of international students attending its courses. In fact, among the three universities, it is even the one with the greatest diversity of nationalities (score of 57).
The University of Aveiro, Coimbra, Minho and also the Catholic University also appear in the long ranking of the British consultancy QS.
The “QS World University Rankings 2022” includes a total of 1,300 universities from all over the world, which were evaluated according to six metrics: international students ratio, international faculty ratio, faculty student ratio, citations per faculty, academic reputation and employer reputation.
