The Portuguese Environment Agency considers that Lusorecursos changed the project for the lithium mine in Montalegre and closed the process without issuing a decision.

The Portuguese Environment Agency (APA) is preparing to close the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) regarding the lithium exploration in Montalegre, without issuing a decision, as it considers that the documents presented by Lusorecursos do not correspond to the same project and the same study that was being analysed since December. The information was advanced by Público.

The agency informed the company of the “need for submission and instruction of a new EIA procedure”, but did not reveal to the newspaper whether or not it will open this new process nor explained the consequences for the concession.

According to Público, Lusorecursos is a few months away from exceeding the deadline that was granted to it to submit an approved study, and currently still does not have a project accepted nor does it have the “green light” from the APA.
