Bank of Portugal (BoP) said that the net value of units issued by investment funds at the end of June was €31.9 billion.

The net value of units issued by investment funds at the end of June was €31.9 billion, the highest figure recorded since June 2008, the Bank of Portugal (BoP) said on Thursday.

In a note, the institution said that there had been “an increase of €1.4 billion in units issued compared to March 2021,” and this increase “was mainly justified by bond funds, equity funds and mixed funds, which grew by €516 million, €446 million and €418 million, respectively.”

The BoP also noted that “the rise in these types of funds contributed to the reduction in the weight of real estate funds in the total sector”.

According to the institution, individuals own 53% of the total number of units issued and “remained the main sector investor in investment funds”, and “in the second quarter of 2021, there was an increase of €1.3 billion in individuals’ portfolios, which contributed to an increase of €4.2 billion compared to the same period last year.”
