Insolvencies fall 1.3% in July, up 11.6% in year so far

The districts of Porto and Lisbon were those with the highest number of insolvencies, with 783 and 736, respectively, reflecting increases of 27.8% and 11.4% compared to the same period in 2020.

Insolvencies decreased to 382 in July, 1.3% less than those recorded in the same period in 2020 (387), but in the year to date, they rose 11.6% compared to the first seven months of last year, according to a study released on Friday.

According to the Iberinform study released today, 3,129 insolvencies were registered up to the end of July 2021.

Iberinform also said that 3,052 new companies were created in July, 190 fewer companies, or 5.9%, than in the same month of 2020, and 24,134 new companies in the first seven months, 2,623 more companies, or 12.2%, than in the same period last year.

In the first seven months of this year and compared to the same period of 2020, in the analysis by type of action, Iberinform highlights a 13% increase in the Requested Declarations of Insolvency (DIR), which amounted to 606, while the Declarations of Insolvency Submitted (DIA) by the companies themselves decreased by 3.1% (from 648 in 2020 to 628).

The closures with Insolvency Plan evolved from 28 in 2020 to 38 in 2021 (+35.7%), while the closures with a declaration of insolvency totalled 1,857, which translates into 264 more actions than in 2020 (an increase of 16.6%), says Iberinform.
