Goods exports in Q2 up 49% YoY, imports up 46% – INE flash estimate

According to Statistics Portugal (INE), exports and imports of goods in the second quarter of 2021 were up by 49.1% and 46.3% on the same period a year earlier.

Exports and imports of goods in the second quarter of 2021 were up by 49.1% and 46.3% on the same period a year earlier, according to a flash estimate of international trade released by Statistics Portugal (INE) on Tuesday.

In its statement, the INE adds that second-quarter exports were up 3.0% on the same period in 2019, while imports were down 3.2%.

The Covid-19 pandemic began in Portugal in March of 2020, so trade in the second quarter of 2020 was already affected by it.

In the first quarter of this year, the year-on-year rates of change in exports and imports had been +6.0% and -4.9%, respectively.
