Tourism in Portugal down 90% in February

February was the third month with the largest reduction in overnight stays, only surpassed by April and May 2020 (-97.4% and -95.8%, respectively), according to Statistics Portugal (INE).

Portugal’s tourist accommodation sector recorded 208.200 guests, and 472.900 overnight stays in February, which corresponds to a major year-on-year reduction of 86.9% and 87.7%, respectively, according to data released on Wednesday by Statistics Portugal (INE).

According to the rapid statistics of tourism activity, since the beginning of the pandemic, February was the third month with the largest reduction in overnight stays, only surpassed by April and May 2020 (-97.4% and -95.8%, respectively).

Overnight stays by residents fell 74.8% (-61.0% in January) and those by non-residents fell 94.4% (-87.2% in the previous month).
