Jobless numbers jump 36.8% Y-o-Y in February

According to the IEFP, the number of unemployed registered in job centres increased by 36.8% in February in year-on-year terms and 1.8% compared to January.

The number of unemployed registered in job centres increased by 36.8% in February in year-on-year terms and 1.8% compared to January, according to data released today by the Institute of Employment and Vocational Training (IEFP).

According to the IEFP, at the end of February, there were 431,843 unemployed registered in the employment services across the country.

This number represents 71.2% of a total of 606,540 job requests.

Last month, the IEFP received 7,677 job offers throughout the country, less than in the previous month. “The economic activities with the greatest expression in the job offers received throughout this month (data for mainland Portugal), in descending order, were the following: ‘Real estate, administrative and support services’ (26.5%), ‘Construction’ (12.9%) and ‘Wholesale and retail trade’ (11.3%).”
