Portugal with record number of Covid-19 cases and deaths

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the country has reported 466,709 cases and 7,590 deaths.

The Directorate-General for Health (DGS) identified 10,176 new cases of Coronavirus in Portugal, bringing the total number of infected to 466,709. This Friday’s epidemiological bulletin also shows that the death toll has risen to 7,590 as 118 more deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.

Of the total number of people infected with the new Coronavirus, most are undergoing treatment at home, with 3,451 inpatients, 536 of them in intensive care units. There are over 109,000 under the surveillance of the health authorities.

The Lisbon and Tagus Valley region registered the highest number of daily cases (4,291), followed by the Northern region with 2,969 cases. The Centro Region recorded 1,963 new cases of Covid-19, the Alentejo 433, the Algarve 400, the Azores 55 and Madeira 65 cases.

It was also in Lisbon that most people died with Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, more precisely 44. 34 more people died in the North, 26 in the Centro Region, nine in the Alentejo, three in the Algarve and two in Madeira. Only the Azores has not registered any death on the last day.
