Portugal reports second-highest daily number of Covid cases

The number of people infected with coronavirus continues to increase and, in the last 24 hours, there have been 5,550 new cases.

There are 5,550 new cases of coronavirus compared to Thursday, bringing the total number of people infected with the disease to 166,900. This is the second time the country has surpassed the barrier of five thousand new daily infections.
52 people have died in the last 24 hours, according to the latest official report of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS).

Of the total number of infected, most are undergoing treatment at home, with 2,425 inpatients, 340 of them in intensive care units. There are over 65,000 under the surveillance of the health authorities.

Since it was detected in Portugal at the beginning of March, the coronavirus has caused the death of 2,792 people, 52 of them in the last 24 hours.
