João Pedro Oliveira e Costa, 54 years old, current member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee, was chosen to succeed Forero.

Pablo Forero will leave the BPI leadership. The Spaniard announced that he would retire, having chosen the name of João Pedro Oliveira e Costa, 54 years old, current member of the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee, to succeed him.

“Banco BPI’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Pablo Forero, 64 years of age, informed Banco BPI’s Board of Directors of his decision to retire at the end of his current mandate,” said the bank controlled by Caixabank in a statement sent to the Securities Market Commission (CMVM).

Forero took over BPI’s leadership in April 2017, months after the takeover bid by the Catalan bank for the Portuguese financial institution was concluded. He was announced as Fernando Ulrich’s successor in February, taking over two months later the mandate that is now ending.

“BPI is at one of the strongest moments in its history, very motivated, well capitalized, with great commercial dynamism and for this reason I understand that this is the right moment to pass on the testimony to a new executive president, Portuguese, trained at home and respected by all,” says Forero in a farewell note.

“I am very proud to have been accompanied in these three years by Banco BPI’s excellent management team, always feeling great support, commitment and professionalism from all the Bank’s employees. I have always understood this position as transitory and I now consider that my mission is accomplished,” he concludes.
