Construction industry output drops in eurozone, rises in Portugal

In Portugal, production in the construction sector increased by 1.1% year-on-year and 1.3% quarter-on-quarter in February.

Production in the construction sector fell in February in the eurozone and the European Union (EU), with Portugal, on the other hand, showing growth in the indicator, according to Eurostat.

Compared to February 2019, production in the construction sector fell 0.9% in both the eurozone and the EU, while in comparison to January the indicator fell 1.5% in the single currency countries and 1.0% in all 27 member states.

In Portugal, production in the construction sector increased by 1.1% year-on-year and 1.3% quarter-on-quarter in February.

According to the European Statistics Office, compared with February 2019, Sweden (-8.0%), Spain (-7.2%) and Belgium (-4.4%) recorded the largest falls, while Romania (25.7%), Slovenia (9.0%) and Slovakia (8.4%) showed the largest increases.

In comparison with January, Romania (-4.6%), the Netherlands (-2.4%) and Belgium (-2.2%) showed the biggest falls and Slovenia (6.8%), Hungary (6.2%) and Poland (3.2%) the main advances.
