Third-highest European increase in retail sales – Eurostat

According to the Eurostat, Portugal recorded the third-largest rise, both year-on-year and quarter-on-quarter.

Retail sales increased in February in the euro area and the European Union (EU), with Portugal recording the third-largest rise, both year-on-year and quarter-on-quarter, according to Eurostat.

According to the European Statistical Office, compared to February 2019, retail sales rose 3.0% in the euro area and 3.2% in the EU.

Compared to January, the indicator grew 0.9% in the average of the euro countries and 0.8% in the 27 member states.

In the year-on-year comparison, the highest increases in retail sales were recorded in Romania (11.9%), Hungary (11.4%) and Portugal (8.4%), with only a decline of 5.2% in Slovenia.

Compared to January, in February the indicator had the highest increases in Estonia (4.4%), Latvia (3.5%) and Portugal (3.0%) and the main falls in Ireland (-2.7%), Slovenia (-1.8%), Croatia and Poland (-0.2% each).
