The Committee on Regional Development has approved the appointment of Elisa Ferreira as Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms.

The European Parliament’s Committee on Regional Development has approved the appointment of Elisa Ferreira as European Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms. She is due to join the next EU executive led by the German Ursula von der Leyen.

The chairman and coordinators (representatives of the political groups) of the committee, which was responsible for assessing the hearing of Elisa Ferreira, met this morning behind closed doors to assess the performance of the Portuguese Commissioner who yesterday passed her “oral examination” before the MEPs.

The EU executive as a whole – President Ursula von der Leyen and all the commissioners who have “passed” the parliamentary scrutiny – will then be subject to a vote of approval by the European Parliament, which should take place at the plenary session on 23 October in Strasbourg.
