The restructuring process of Impresa has started to show some positive results. The media group ended this semester with one more million euros than last year as the only thing pushing back the group’s performance was the initial losses in the first trimester. This semester’s total net revenue increased by 38%, registering profits of 3.5M€, after the famous TV host Cristina Ferreira’s transference from the rival TVI to SIC.

The period between January and March had been conditioned by the pressure the investment on new studios made on Impresa’s accounts. After being able to overcome it, the group managed to end the semester with the highest profit in five-years-time. The explanation for it was the “good performance observed in all the TV business’ revenue streams”, except for channels’ subscription as Impresa referred in its report.

At the beginning of the year, the Programa da Cristina (which is a morning talk show presented by Cristina Ferreira, dubbed by many as the ‘Portuguese Oprah’) rapidly conquered the morning audiences as, then, by the end of the semester, SIC managed to beat TVI on prime time as well. Despite not mentioning directly Cristina Ferreira in its report, the group has doubled its revenue with her TV show’s rampant success. This stream revenue called “IVR”, for instance, increased by 115,4% in the first semester, generating 6.4M€ in revenues.

The EBITDA increased by 12% to 11.6M€ as the group generated total revenues of 88.8M€, which is an increase of 3.2% relative to last year. As a result of these positive results, Impresa shares are soaring 8% in Lisbon’s Stock Exchange, valuing 95% since the beginning of the year. SIC’s owner values in 26.60 cents per share.
