Portuguese exportation of goods increased by 8.7% as the importation increased by 14.7% relative to last year’s May. The National Institute of Statistics also noted that both exports and imports accelerated relative to April’s 3.1% and 11.4%, respectively.

Exportations

According to the “Statistics of International Trade”‘s report, an increase of 8.7% in exportations was due to the favourable evolution of intra-EU trade, highlighting an increase of 21.9% in transport materials because of “the exportation of other transport materials (majorly for aeroplanes)”.

Importations

Importation increased by 14.7% as a result of the evolution of both types of trade, highlighting an increase in the importation of transport materials (+27.4%) and “fuel and lubricants” (+43.2%).

If one excluded fuel and lubricants, exportations increased by 9.9% and importations by 11.8% in May (+4.6% and +10.7% relative to April 2019).

At the end of the second trimester, exportation and importation of goods increased by 5.6% and 12.3% relative to the same period of 2018.
