Portugal 5-Years Bond Yield hitting negative – first time

The Portuguese Government 5-Years bond yields are now being touched a negative level of -0.010% for the first time ever. This is not just a first-time-ever minimum, this is the first-time-ever that Portugal is negotiating 5-Years bond yields at a negative low.

The country has been drawing the attention of investors to its positive economic performance over the last couples of months. A confidence that was boosted after the American rating agency, Fitch, announced that it will consider upgrading Portugal’s rating from “stable” to “positive”.

This trend is not exclusive to Portugal as it has been observed a generalised bond yields’ dropping all across Europe, with the exception of Italy.
