Credit demand is accelerating, BdP says

Demand for credit, from corporations and other consumers, has been on the rise. BdP's survey to the banking system has shown this trend will be maintained during the next trimester.

By the end of lasst year, access criteria for credit was nearly unchanged but banks have noticed there was an increase in demand from corporates and households.

This is referred to in the last survey prepared by the Bank of Portugal to the Portuguese banking system, in which banks have admitted that they expect the increasing trend to continue being witnessed.

“Some banking institutions have noted that there was a slight increase in terms of demand for credit from small companies and big corporates, especially in terms of long-term loans”, the BdP announced in their report, adding that three of those financial institutions interviewed had registered a slight increase in their financing needs.
