Paddy Cosgrave had invited far-right, extremist Le Pen, to the Web Summit. After a chain of negative reactions, the CEO decided to withdraw his invitation to the French politician.
The CEO of the Web Summit, Paddy Cosgrave, has said on Twitter that he has decided to un-invite the French far-right leader, Marine Le Pen.
“It is now clear to me that the correct decision for #WebSummit is to withdraw the invitation to Marine Le Pen”, Mr Cosgrave wrote on his Twitter account.
In a series of ‘tweets’, Cosgrave explained that his team had received a wide range of opinions online about the presence of Le Pen and concluded that her presence would be “particularly disrespectful to the host country (Portugal) and some of the tens of thousands of participants from all around the world who will be attending the technology and innovation event.”
The event is being held later this year in Lisbon for the third time.
