Lisbon is in fashion. The Portuguese capital city registered twice as many passengers in the beginning of the year. This record growth happened due to the new passenger terminal, according to the Lisbon Harbor.

“The cruise ship activity in the Lisbon Harbor registered, in the second quarter of 2018, a 103% homologous growth in terms of the number of passengers, which stood at 52,583, against the 29,908 registered in the homologous period”, according to a press release from the Lisbon Harbor. The same is to say that it more than doubled. Stops increased to 34, in comparison to the 19 from the same period of last year, which is an almost 80% increase.

“These records amounts are especially due to the increase of 419% of turnaround passengers”, the Lisbon Harbor states, which means the number of passengers that began and ended their trip in Lisbon increased over five times: it rose to 1,229 in comparison to 237 in the first quarter of last year.

The Lisbon Harbor attributed this exponential growth to the new passenger terminal. And given the new facilities to receive tourists, the good momentum will continue. The Lisbon Harbor foresees it will host around 115 stops and 171 thousand passengers next quarter, when there is a larger concentration of cruise ship activity.

The new terminal was inaugurated last November. It has 1,490 square meters, it can receive a maximum of 4,500, it has 360 light-rail vehicles and 80 buses or tourism taxis, a panoramic terrace and free wi-fi.
