Emigrants remittances increase 30%, Angola is the largest from the Portuguese-speaking African countries
Portugal received 364.7 million euros in July. France and Switzerland are still the countries with more remittances. Angola sent the most money out of the Portuguese-speaking African countries.
Emigrants’ remittances increased 30% in July in comparison to the same period of last year, with Portuguese workers from Portuguese-speaking African countries (PALOP) sending 60% more money than in July of 2016.
According to data from the Bank of Portugal, emigrants sent to Portugal 364.7 million euros, which represents a 30.01% increase in comparison to the 280.5 million euros sent in July, 2016.
As usual, Portuguese living in France and in Switzerland sent the largest amounts of money which contributed to this 30% homologous increase in July (105 million and 96 million, respectively).
When only considering PALOPs, the increase is even higher: in July, these emigrants sent to Portugal 32.8 million euros, representing a 59.9% increase in comparison to the 20.5 million sent in July of last year. Angola, as usual, represents the largest amount of transfers: it is responsible for 32.08 out of the 32.85 million euros sent by all Portuguese-speaking African countries.
