Over 400 off-duty TAP pilots protest against abuse, injustice by management
The civil aviation pilots' union (SPAC) has called for a demonstration this Tuesday, aimed at workers who are off duty, against the "abuses and injustices" of TAP's management and superiors.
Over 400 TAP pilots are demonstrating on Tuesday at the company’s headquarters in Lisbon against what they consider to be “abuses and injustices” committed by the management.
Waving placards reading “I am a TAP pilot and I am also a taxpayer” and “Forgive me, I am a TAP pilot”, over 400 pilots are protesting in silence, interrupted only by applause.
The civil aviation pilots’ union (SPAC) has called for a demonstration this Tuesday, aimed at workers who are off duty, against the “abuses and injustices” of TAP’s management and superiors.
According to the SPAC, the issue at stake is the refusal by the board of directors of TAP Air Portugal to hold workers’ meetings.
The aim of the protest is to demonstrate dissatisfaction with the “abuses, injustices and the way the board and the supervisor have managed the company and the labour relationship with pilots,” according to the union.
The demonstration began at 8:30am in Lisbon, next to the Areeiro Crew Terminal (TTA), and ends at the TAP Campus.
TAP said on Tuesday it regretted not having reached an agreement with its pilots, stating that it remains “committed to finding solutions that will ensure the sustainability of the company and all its workers.”
An official source from the airline told Lusa on Tuesday that the company “regrets not having yet reached an agreement with its pilots, who are essential to the company” and that it remains “committed to finding solutions that will ensure the sustainability of the company and all its workers.
