US advises against travel to Portugal
The US health authorities have placed Portugal at Covid risk level 4, the highest on the scale, and it is now a destination to avoid.
Portugal is back on the very high-risk list, the level four, of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Most European countries, with a few exceptions, are on this list, where travel is advised against. Finland, Italy, Malta, Spain and Sweden remain at CDC risk level three.
“Because of the current situation in Portugal, even fully vaccinated travellers may be at risk for getting and spreading Covid-19 variants,” the CDC website indicates.
In Monday’s update, the maximum risk list now has 83 destinations, which now includes, in addition to Portugal, France, Andorra, Cyprus, Liechtenstein, Tanzania and Jordan.
Travelling to the US, the CDC warns that before boarding everyone must present a negative test done at least 24 hours before. Only children under two years old do not need to present a test. Authorities also recommend a re-test three to five days after arrival in the US.
