Toll and rail services company reports 7% growth, profits hit €227.6 m
IP Infraestruturas increased its revenue by 7% during the first semester of the year. Toll charges on motorways accounted for 79% of IP's total revenue.
Portuguese infrastructure management company IP-Infraestruturas de Portugal recorded €227.6 million in user revenues, including tolls and rail services, in the first half of the year, the company reported on Thursday.
In a statement, IP said the value of revenue represents growth of 7% on year, or an additional €15.4 million, compared with the same period of 2017.
“It should be noted that growth is seen both in road revenues obtained through toll collection and in revenues from services provided to railway operators,” the report said.
Toll charges on motorways accounted for 79% of IP’s total revenue (around €180 million) in the first six months of this year. In this area, there was a 9% rise in the amount collected, in the year-on-year comparison.
“This growth is in line with what has been seen in recent years, justified by the progressive increase in demand for national motorways, which saw a significant contribution, in the case of motorways in the interior, from the application of discounts on toll rates,” the company said.
On the railways, revenue increased from €47.1 million in the first half of 2017 to €48 million in the first six months of this year.
