The Portuguese economic activity has the largest growth rhythm of the past 17 years
Economic activity continues growing in September, although private consumption decelerated in comparison to August.
Economic activity continued increasing in September to levels seen in 2000, while private consumption suffered a decrease in comparison to August, according to coincident indicators disclosed this Friday by the Bank of Portugal (BdP). Acording to BdP’s data, economic activity maintained “the upward trend observed since the fourth quarter of 2016”, standing at 3.9% in September, after August’s 3.8%.
According to the series available in BdP’s database, the economic activity growth in September was the largest since January of 2000.
As for the monthly coincident indicator for private consumption, it decreased from 2.8% in August to 2.6% in September.
Coincident indicators are composite indicators that aim to capture the underlying evolution of the homologous variation of a macroeconomic aggregate.
