Unions have “good expectations” for this Thursday’s meeting with Autoeuropa’s administration
Unions are meeting this Thursday with Autoeuropa's administration, where they hope it is possible to negotiate an agreement on the dispute about mandatory work on Saturdays.
This Thursday, unions are meeting with Autoeuropa’s administration and have “good expectations” on its outcome. They are confident an agreement will be reached on the dispute over the mandatory work on Saturday, stated this Wednesday a union source.
“We are optimistic”, Eduardo Florindo, from Sitesul, the southern Portuguese Union for workers in the transforming industry, energy and environment activities, told Lusa. Sitesul is the union representing the majority of workers from the Volkswagen factory in Palmela. Florindo refused to make any further statements on the meeting scheduled for 5 p.m. this Thursday, in line with the unions’ strategy.
Autoeuropa accepted the unions’ request for a meeting, after the August 30th strike. However, sources from the company stated that the administration should only resume negotiations with the new Workers Council from Autoeuropa, which should only be elected on October 3rd.
Unions made a “positive assessment” of the strike, Autoeuropa’s first strike for labor reasons, but the administration says that only 41% of workers did in fact join the strike.
Although Autoeuropa intends to negotiate only with the Workers Council, unions believe they can reach an agreement with the administration, in order to ensure the company’s needs are met, while safeguarding the employees’ rights.
