Portugal beats EU when it comes to house prices
In 2017, housing prices in Portugal had an 8% increase - much more than the European Union and Euro Area percentages.
Housing prices increased 4.0% in the Euro Area and 4.5% in the European Union (EU) in the first quarter of 2017, in comparison to the homologous period, disclosed Eurostat. Portugal had a much larger increase increase than both averages.
In Portugal, housing prices increased 7.9%, but the largest homologous increase took place in Czech Republic, with a 12.8% rise. In comparison to the first quarter of 2016, prices decreased in Croatia (-0.4%) and in Italy (-0.1%).
In comparison to the last quarter of 2016, between January and March, housing prices increased 0.4% in the Euro Area and 0.7% in the EU. In Portugal, housing prices increased 2.1% when making a quarter on quarter comparison.
