The European Commission will grant a maximum of 12.5 million euros to the Portuguese areas affected by the June wildfires.
The European Commission will grant a maximum of 12.5 million euros to the Portuguese areas affected by the June wildfires, stated this Wednesday the Labor, Solidarity and Social Security minister, José Vieira da Silva.
After the extraordinary Social Concertation meeting in Lisbon, the governor underlined the amount Brussels will grant Portugal is “only one of the components of the European solidarity fund, which can be triggered for global damages of 500 million euros”.
To journalists, Vieira da Silva recalled that the Council of ministers approved a resolution on aids for those areas, which come from many sources: “specific funds, municipality emergency funds”, “solidarity fund” and “funds from the Portugal 2020 programme [community capital]”. “The total amount of money to be allocated for those areas is still not fully assessed”, stated Vieira da Silva.
