OutSystems acquires Ionic

The Portuguese unicorn bought a platform for developing mobile and desktop applications using web technology.

OutSystems, a tech company that operates in low code development, announced this Monday the acquisition of Ionic, a platform for developing mobile and desktop applications using web technology. The value of the transaction was not disclosed.

“We founded OutSystems to help customers innovate faster and fundamentally change how enterprise software is developed. Ionic is a continuation and expansion of that vision,” Paulo Rosado, founder and CEO of OutSystems, said in a statement.

“Ionic’s team, technology and community are integral to our strategy as we redefine the future of software development. Like us, the Ionic team is focused on creating the best experience for developers. Together, we will do even more to help enterprise software teams massively improve their performance and deliver strategic applications that were previously only achievable by elite development teams with unlimited budgets and resources,” the CEO explained.

JMP Securities, Citizens Company (financial adviser) and Polsinelli PC (legal adviser) advised ionic. Hogan Lovells LLP was OutSystems’ legal advisor in this transaction.
