The concession contract includes the financing, operation, maintenance and operation of the Attica motorway for a period of 25 years.

Portuguese motorway operator Brisa announced on Friday that it has been qualified for the final phase of the international tender for the 25-year concession of the Attica motorway in the Athens metropolitan area in Greece.

“The expression of interest submitted by Brisa in the context of the tender for the Attica motorway concession in Greece has been selected by the Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund to submit a binding offer,” the Portuguese company said in a statement.

The concession contract includes the financing, operation, maintenance and operation of the Attica motorway for a period of 25 years, it states.

“We are pleased that Brisa has reached the final phase of this very demanding and selective international tender. As the tender is for a 25-year contract, we are working on Brisa’s financial structure and are particularly committed to ensuring the presentation of a competitive bid, as well as being convinced that the model is good in defence of the public interest,” said the chairman of Brisa’s executive board, António Pires de Lima, as quoted in the statement.

The Attica motorway is presented by Brisa as being “one of the most important” road infrastructures in Greece: “It is a 70-kilometre-long ring road in the metropolitan area of Athens and forms the backbone of the road system of the Attica region, forming part of the road connecting the cities of Patras, Athens, Thessaloniki and Evzoni,” it said.
