Tourist accommodation numbers in April above 2019 levels

According to tourism activity statistics, released by INE, the increases recorded in April compare with the 462.6% rise in guests and 540.6% rise in overnight stays in March.

Tourist accommodation in Portugal recorded 2.4 million guests and 6.0 million overnight stays in April, registering year-on-year increases of 424.6% and 548.4% respectively, exceeding 2019 levels, the national statistics institute, INE, revealed on Wednesday.

According to tourism activity statistics, released by INE, the increases recorded in April compare with the 462.6% rise in guests and 540.6% rise in overnight stays in March.

“Compared to April 2019, there were increases of 1.6% and 1.1%, respectively,” says the national statistical authority, stressing that it is the first time since the beginning of the pandemic that increases have been recorded compared to the same period prior to the pandemic.

In April, the domestic market contributed with 1.9 million overnight stays and foreign markets with 4.1 million, the highest figure since the start of the pandemic.
