The group headed by Cláudia Azevedo joins other Portuguese listed companies, such as Jerónimo Martins, Galp, EDP, EDP Renováveis and BCP in the Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index.

Sonae was selected to be part of the Bloomberg 2022 Gender-Equality Index (GEI), which includes in this year’s edition a total of 418 companies from fifty different sectors – finance, technology and utilities are the most represented – and from 45 countries and regions, with a combined market capitalisation of €16 billion (€14.2 billion).

Sonae thus joins other Portuguese listed companies, such as Jerónimo Martins, Galp, EDP, EDP Renováveis or BCP, which were already part of the previous edition of this index that tracks the performance of public companies committed to disclosing their efforts to support gender equality through policy development, representation, and transparency.

Female leadership & talent pipeline; Equal pay and gender pay parity; Inclusive culture; Anti-sexual harassment policies; Pro-women brand. These are the five pillars evaluated in this Bloomberg project, with Sonae particularly distinguishing itself in the first three pillars and achieving an overall score of 78%.

In the 2022 edition, the average GEI score was 71%. The analysis of the 418 participants, including some of the world’s leading companies, shows that women hold 31% of board seats. 72% have a Chief Diversity Officer, or an executive with the primary responsibility of Diversity & Inclusion, and 61% require a gender diverse slate of candidates for management positions.
