Ferries operated by Transtejo and Soflusa will be limited on Wednesday and Thursday due to plenary meetings of workers.

River Tagus ferries operated by Transtejo and Soflusa will be limited on Wednesday and Thursday due to plenary meetings of workers demanding an increase in wages and the hiring of more professionals.

On Wednesday, Transtejo workers will meet in plenary between 2:30 pm and 5:30 pm, affecting the connections between Cais do Sodré and Cacilhas, Montijo and Seixal, as well as Trafaria-Porto Brandão-Belém.

Another stoppage is planned for Thursday between 1:55 pm and 3:55 pm due to a plenary of Soflusa workers interrupting the connections between Barreiro and Lisbon.

The workers have been engaged in several forms of struggle, including a strike from June 11 to 13 to demand pay rises and the hiring of new staff.

The strike was called by the Transport and Communications Trade Union Federation (Fectrans) in response to the administration’s proposal, under Government guidance, of 0.9% wage increases when there is an increase in the cost of living and when inflation stands at 7.2%.

Besides the salary issue, the Soflusa workers are also demanding the hiring of workers.

In a statement to Lusa, Fectrans’ leader Carlos Costa explained that there had been no progress since that strike, thus maintaining the claims.

According to the union leader, the plenary meetings now scheduled aim to assess what the workers may develop other actions of struggle.

Transtejo and Soflusa have the same administration, ensuring the river connections between the south bank and Lisbon. Transtejo is responsible for the connection of Seixal, Montijo, Cacilhas and Trafaria/Porto Brandão, in the district of Setúbal, to Lisbon, while Soflusa makes the crossing between Barreiro, also in the district of Setúbal, and Terreiro do Paço, in Lisbon.
