The Portuguese socialists presented an alteration to the budgetary draft to postpone to 2017 the CGD’s capital injection. But the amount they presented has three zeros less than it should.

The Portuguese minister of Finance, Mário Centeno, announced in Parliament the government will postpone to 2017 the capital injection for Caixa Geral de Depósitos. In order to comply with this decision, the parliamentary group of the Socialist Party (PS) handed in their proposal for the 2017 State Budget amendment, to increase the limits set on the celling for public indebtedness. The problem was they left out three zeros: instead of predicting an injection that could go up to 2.7 billion euros, the socialists mention an amount of 2.7 million.

“It was clearly a typo”, PS deputy João Galamba told ECO, recognizing a correction needs to be made. “The correction depends on the consensus among parties, but the common practice is for parties to accept it when it is clearly a typo, as in this particular case”, João Galamba explains.

The voting and debate of each individual section of the 2017SB will be held on November 24, 25 and 28. The closing and final overall voting of the Budget is scheduled for November 29, in plenary, starting at 10 a.m.
